Imaginative Art

Show how you see, dream, or envision the environment: from natural resources, Diversity of Species and how human can connect with nature. Entries can be in the form of drawings (hand or computer), sculpture, ceramics, woodworking, or any medium the artist feels best illustrates the environmental issue.









General Criteria

  • Contest is opened for participant between ages 6 and 19 years.
  • The contest will have 2 sub- contests:
    • Normal paintings and drawings (by hand or computer) – Max size A3
    • 3D artistic pieces – Max size 50cm x 50cm x 50cm
  • Art pieces should reflect this year’s theme, illustrating how modern human societies can connect with nature and underlining the value of biodiversity.

Regulations:

  • Make sure to fill the application form and submit them to the teacher in charge.
  • Every submitted work must be labelled with the code that corresponds to the code on the submitter’s application.
  • Applications must be labelled with numbers corresponding to the work.

Important notes:

* Any drawings, which do not illustrate this year’s WED theme, will not be entered into the contest.

*Art submitted becomes a WESC property and will not be returned to any student.

Toys from Recycled materials

In 1992, Club2/3, a Canadian NGO, started a contest of making toys out of recycled material. The main focus of the contest is the fight against degradation of the environment and the possible ways in which this degradation can be reversed. The contest is open for youths, emphasizing the vital role youth have in fostering and creating environmental responsibility.
In 2006, WESC hosted Club 2/3’s toys contest for the first time in Egypt at World Environment Day. More than 50 schools submitted over 600 toys in WED 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009.



Use your creativity to conceptualize, design, and construct your own innovative toys made entirely from previously used/recycled materials.Toys will be displayed in Egypt and winning entries might enter the international competition.

General Criteria

  • Contest is open for students between the ages of 6 and 19 years
  • You can enter as an individual or as part of a group of up to 4 students.
  • No more than one toy per person or per group is accepted
  • Maximum toy dimensions are 40cm x 40cm x 40cm.

Guidelines to develop your Toy:

  • Think of the materials available around you that you could make use of.
  • Make sure you are developing a toy that a child could actually play with and not just a sculpture.
  • Reflect on the creativity and originality of your toy (Think out of the Box).
  • Consider the aesthetic quality and rigidity of your work

Regulations:

  • The toy must be entirely composed of Recycled/ Reused materials.
  • No use of any new component is allowed.
  • No use of paint is allowed.
  • Glue, iron wires or any other cords, are to be used in limited amounts.
  • This contest upholds values such as peace and solidarity, thus no toy promoting violent values such as war, will be accepted.

Film Festival

Destined to become a film maker? Show your talents and highlight your hopes, visions, and frustrations about the environment. Short story films should present an environmental concern or problem, and possible solutions in documentary, fiction, animation, silent, musical, or any other style.
Students are invited to produce a short film revolving around this year’s WED theme “Many Species. One Planet. One Future.”





General Criteria:

  • Contest is open to students between ages 12 and 19 years.
  • Duration: 5 – 15 minutes
  • Films should reflect this year’s theme, illustrating how modern human societies can connect with nature and underlining the value of biodiversity.
  • Format: VHS, CD, DVD or AVI

  • Every submitted work must be labelled with the code that corresponds to the code on the submitter’s application.
  • Applications must be labelled with numbers corresponding to the work.

Suggested Guidelines to develop your Film:

The following steps will help you in creating a complete film:

  1. Concept Script (also known as script treatment).
  2. Screenplay Script (required even if it is a documentary)
  3. Script Breakdown (elements required for production including: actors, equipment, props, costumes, lighting, sound, technicians, rental costs…etc.)
  4. Storyboarding the Script (drawing the script in “comic book” format)
  5. Developing a Shot List (scenes to be shot, which location, what day…etc.)
  6. Production Schedule (based on the shot list, producer breaks up every day to know cash flow required, location permits to attain, equipment to rent…etc.)
  7. Shooting the film.
  8. Editing and this includes the picture and sound editing for the film.
  9. Adding the Intro and End Credits to the film.

Songs Of Hope

Play an instrument? Have a beautiful voice? Active in band or choir? Let us hear your visions of hope for our environment by composing and/or singing a song.
You are invited to produce a song revolving around this year’s WED theme “Many Species. One Planet. One Future.”









General Criteria:

  • Contest is open for students between ages 8 and 19 years.
  • Song duration: 3 – 5 minutes.
  • Songs should reflect this year’s theme, illustrating how modern human societies can connect with nature and underlining the value of biodiversity.
  • Accepted Format: Cassette, CD or MP3

Follow the given regulations

Regulations:

  • You can compose your own music or use music composed from an existing song.
  • Your song needs to tackle any of the environmental issues that this year’s festival focuses on.
  • Winners will perform for World Environment Day audience.
  • Announcement of the winners will be a week ahead of the event day.
  • Make sure to fill the application form and submit them to the teacher in charge.
  • Every submitted work must be labelled with the code that corresponds to the code on the submitter’s application.
  • Applications must be labelled with numbers corresponding to the work.

Suggested Guidelines to develop your song:

  • A song is a combination of text and music: A song needs to draw the listener in with an interesting lyric and pleasing melody.
  • A song needs to be “catchy”, as a song must please the ear rather than just reading it like a poem.
  • Usually song composers begin by writing the words then composing the music which will be in harmony with the words
