The World Environment Day event, 2010, hosted by WESC, is proud to be the first event in Egypt to have its footprint calculated. A Carbon Footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gas emissions caused by an event, organization, or product. The emission of greenhouse gasses by human activity is accepted as being the cause of global warming, which threatens global biodiversity, ecosystems, and the livelihood of hundreds of millions of people.
WESC and its partners organizers have chosen to go a step further by offsetting the emissions from the event to make it the first CarbonZero event in Egypt…read more.
WESC is glad to announce that it has received the work of all the schools that participated in the schools’ contests for WED 2010. A Jury will be judging the work this week and a ceremony for the winners will be held after the event at the Cairo House. You can look at the magnificent work of the winners which will be displayed at the event.
Wadi Environmental Science Centre and The Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs are hosting the World Environment Day together on 5th of June, 2010 in Al-Azhar Park, Cairo by organizing an environmental science fair open to the entire community. This exciting event will attract people from all over Egypt and offer them a place to learn – in a fun and interesting way about our environment. People will have an opportunity to see cutting-edge energy and building technology, and participate in a variety of activities, games, art exhibits, and contests. It will provide an avenue for groups and companies to diffuse environmental information to the public, allow diverse organizations to network, and demonstrate the world’s hope for a sustainable environment in a fun and educational way.
The goals of the event is to give a human face to environmental concerns; empower people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable growth; promote an understanding that communities are pivotal to changing attitudes towards environment; and advocate partnership, which will help out all nations and peoples enjoy a safer and more prosperous future.
